Transport Mechanisms in Epithelia

چکیده
The author describes some auscultory findings in ventricular tachycardia, which will aid the reader when he is confronted with diagnosing either supraventricular tachycardia or ventricular tachycardia. An excellent chapter discusses evaluation of the severity of hypertension based on auscultory findings. These also come from the author's studies. The author, in a chapter on functional and innocent murmurs reminds us that "functional murmurs may not be innocent and an innocent murmur may not be functional." "The Sounds of the Diseased Heart" is a textbook that will not only be an excellent source of reference, but also an excellent educational experience.

Modulation of cellular transport characteristics of the human lung alveolar epithelia
Among the drug delivery and targeting (DDT) routes, lung alveolar epithelium has been given enormous attentions in terms of the delivery of a wide range of macromolecules such as gene- or protein-based nanopharmaceuticals. However, little is known about cellular modulation of lung transport characteristics by endogenous and/or exogenous agents. Thus, in the current study, impact of dexamethason...
متن کاملCharacterization of sodium transport in gustatory epithelia from the hamster and rat.
The transduction of sodium salts occurs through a variety of mechanisms, including sodium influx through amiloride-sensitive sodium channels, anion-dependent sodium movement through intercellular junctions and unidentified amiloride-insensitive mechanisms. Characterizations of sodium transport in lingual epithelium mounted in Ussing chambers have focused almost exclusively on epithelia containi...

متن کاملFreshwater Sponges Have Functional, Sealing Epithelia with High Transepithelial Resistance and Negative Transepithelial Potential
Epithelial tissue - the sealed and polarized layer of cells that regulates transport of ions and solutes between the environment and the internal milieu - is a defining characteristic of the Eumetazoa. Sponges, the most ancient metazoan phylum, are generally believed to lack true epithelia, but their ability to occlude passage of ions has never been tested. Here we show that freshwater sponges ...
متن کاملControl of epithelial transport via luminal P2 receptors.
P2 membrane receptors are specifically activated by extracellular nucleotides like ATP, ADP, UTP, and UDP. P2 receptors are subdivided into metabotropic P2Y and ionotropic P2X receptors. They are expressed in all tissues and induce a variety of biological effects. In epithelia, they are found in both the basolateral and the luminal membranes. Their widespread luminal expression in nearly all tr...
متن کاملUse of cultured epithelia to study transport and its regulation.
Epithelial cells from a variety of species and organs form polarized epithelia in culture. When epithelia are grown on a porous surface, such as a millipore filter, transport can be studied using adaptations of standard techniques. In the few years in which cultured epithelia have been studied by transport physiologists, most work has been focused on identification and description of the differ...
